KATHERINE ARMITAGE

MLCHOM (Complementary Therapists Association)

Katherine is a qualified, registered & insured Yoga teacher, homeopath & flower essence prescriber. She is also a healer/Reiki practitioner and member of the North Devon Natural Health Organisation

I have been using yoga, homeopathy & natural healing systems for transformation for 20 years. Having been fully dosed with antibiotics as a child and watching my mother die of Cancer when I was 18, I sought to find some answers to my questions about life and started on my healing journey. When my son was born in France 1987 I discovered homeopathy and I've been using it ever since. I teach homeopathy for the Lakeland College in London.

I was brought up in a beautiful old water Mill and I have always been inspired by the natural world and how it can help us heal. It is also a major reason for setting up a healing centre in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the north devon coast. I like getting groups of diverse people together, hearing their stories and learning from them and having fun. Other interests include, playing tennis, walking by the sea and making hearty vegetarian soups and salads. I am a trained Sivananda Yoga teacher and a follower of many great yogis including The Master Babiji, Sivananda, Yogananda and my own spiritual teacher George King.

I work with all kinds of health issues ranging from insomnia to arthritis, from depression to diabetes. I enjoy working with adults, babies, children & elderly people. I do follow up telephone consultations to give people extra support through challenging times and to prescribe for acute illnesses.

STEWART JOHNSTON

Healer/Reiki practitioner

I started my spiritual journey over 30 years ago, learning Transcendental Meditation and I have been practising since then. Inbetween times I have raised a family and worked as an aircraft engineer, all the while continuing my spiritual quest to explore the frontiers of metaphysics and avenues to improve my health and other peoples . I am an active student of Yoga and healer.

Stewart is our environmental magician. He keeps things working and finds practical solutions for everyday problems like broken taps or window frames, he has an enormous tool cupboard and he has a tool for everything.
He is the chief gardener and vegetable grower, clearing , planting and creating. He is the energy behind Mother Earth's Minerals, supplying quality basalt rock dust to organic farmers and gardeners to grow strong mineralised crops, plants and flowers that are pest and drought resistant.
His interests include finding drift wood on the beach, chopping it up to keep the log pile high and  lighting the wood burner on winter evenings to enjoy. He has also taken up surfing, climbing local hills and spending time with his new grand daughter and he keeps the Bed and Breakfast guests informed on a range of subjects from natural cures for prostate problems to growing well mineralised vegetables.

Brigid Hurley MA

Brigid trained in Environmental Studies and Whole Systems Design (Antioch University) in the United States.  She has a lifetime’s interest in Celtic culture and Metaphysics.

Whole systems design is discerning the hub of a wheel that connects different spokes which represent disparate or component elements of, for example, a family, a community, or a large corporation, so that the ‘whole’ can work better and more efficiently.  Whole systems design can be applied to the smallest family or to the largest country, from a small storage closet to an oil refinery.  Brigid’s experience as a whole systems designer has been mainly working with community and environmental projects and in the field of education.

Brigid focuses on the relationship between community and environment as it pertains to Human Ecology – the wider association we have with the planet that expresses and hopefully promotes environmental and cultural survival – right down to the function people have to ‘place’, as it relates to daily existence in our homes and the workplace.  Her Celtic Metaphysical workshops at Cranleigh House bring all these various components together.

In courses she has developed over the years, Brigid has joined aspects of history with those of Ecology, promoting cultural and environmental sustainability wherever possible.  In TUATHA: The People, a communication and community development course she taught at the University of Washington’s Experimental College, she used the model of a 16th century wool producing Irish village to bring zoologists, engineers, university fundraisers, midwives, other professionals and students together to create community and learn about the value each individual can have in designing a communication process.

Brigid loves the natural world especially plants and animals.  Brigid says, “Nature has always been our teacher; cultures embraced similar cosmologies, myths and archetypes that were significant to them even though they evolved from very different ecosystems, from temperate forests, deserts or at the edge of the sea.  Oral traditions speak of the phenomenal aspects of the spirits in the environment; dryads in the forest or the Jinni of the desert”.  She is fascinated by the sacredness of place defined by each culture as it evolves from within its own specific environment, with its own characteristics and ecology having its own biological peculiarities and particular foods. She is also great at space clearing and teaches courses in ‘Voluntary Simplicity’ to help you to keep your everyday or sacred space clutter free!

Brigid is also a chef and housekeeper extraordinaire and her positive influence can be experienced in the smooth running of the daily life and organisation of Cranleigh House and enjoyed at mealtimes, in the kitchen, in funny and interesting conversations.

She helps to bring all the diverse elements of Cranleigh House together, using her skills as a whole systems designer to keep all the horses running well as a team.

Katherine, Stewart and Brigid met while attending a Practitioner course in Body Electronics – www.bodyelectronics.co.uk  -which includes sustained acupressure point holding and other related naturopathic therapies that align body mind and spirit.
